Title: Sky Whirl
Description: Any hope?
the_franchise - July 1, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
What was done with Sky Whirl? What do you think the chances are of it being placed somewhere else?
jonrev - July 1, 2006 05:44 AM (GMT)
Machenery: Melted Down
Cabins: All survived until Fright Fest last year. All but 4 were scrapped.

That really sucks. How many rides like this one are left? Is there one at Hershey?
jonrev - July 2, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
Im not sure if the one at Hershey is still running?
CoasterAndrew15 - July 2, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
No..I miss Sky Whirl more than I miss Shockwave, but I didn't really care for either of them. I'd still rather have it than Vu.

Yea right. Chances are 1 in a million to me.
Jackluver19 - September 23, 2006 01:05 AM (GMT)

I was surprised to see the cages out at Fright Fest again. Towards the end of last year's Fright Fest they were stripped of all removable parts by guests.
Sitting in one of those (comfortable) cages made me miss the ride again. :(
Galvan316 - January 11, 2007 12:52 AM (GMT)
Uhh, theres no Sky Whirl ride at Hershey Park
jonrev - January 11, 2007 01:45 AM (GMT)
There was a 2 wheeled one until a few years ago.

I miss the Sky Whirl. :(
I used to go on it twice a trip...once in the daytime, and once at night before close.
sfgam123 - February 17, 2007 04:55 AM (GMT)
What did it look like at night.
Viper 06 - February 17, 2007 04:58 AM (GMT)
The same as it did during the day only the slightest big darker.

It'd be nice if we could get any Southern Cross type ride.

It was a view of the lighted coasters from above, I-94, and the other side of the highway. It was a good way to wind down after a long day.
Ilovthevu' - January 4, 2008 05:54 PM (GMT)
It just had those big huge lights on it. It didn't have any lights actually on the ride like a Triple Play or something. There was just too many problems with guests, and that ride.
sfgam123 - March 19, 2008 12:24 AM (GMT)
I think there are 3 or 4 more cages left, the rest of the ride as I know it has been scraped. And I think if there bringing back area 51 for fright fest this comming season they will keep the 3 or 4 cages they have left.
jonrev - October 13, 2009 11:38 PM (GMT)
I have not been in A51 yet, but can anyone confirm if the SkyWhirl cabins are still in use? I know they cleaned house recently in the boneyard.
GreatAmericaFan17 - October 14, 2009 03:20 AM (GMT)
When I was in there, I did not see them anywhere. That was on the first day though, so I'm not sure if they put them back out at this point.
Jackluver19 - October 14, 2009 04:54 PM (GMT)
I saw them, if you go by where that little kiddie train is over by Snowshoe and stand in front of the fence by the makeup station and look straight across you can see them.

is that Tweetie Bird cage in the entrance plaza one of the cages? It sure looks like one.
jonrev - July 10, 2010 07:25 AM (GMT)
No. That's probably the one that was on what is now M-porium in County Fair.

And how stupid was that putting in an all M&M themed shop?? Ok I like the candies as anyone else would but i just cant get excited over something like this. I hate what they are doing with the merchandise there as well. Disney and High School Musical Come on where are the Looney Tunes things? I ESPECIALLY MISS THE LOONEY TUNES FACTORY STORES, it was like going to SFGAM during the winter.
