Title: 10/5/08
Description: One of the best Fright Fests yet...

jonrev - October 6, 2008 04:38 AM (GMT)
Was at a car show in Winthrop Harbor from early in the morning until about 2 when the rain moved in. Since it was on the way back I decided to see what Six Flags has in store for this year's Fright Fest...

Boo rain...

Think they upped the fog levels this year?

Area 51 is slapped off to the side in the old Plymouth Place this year. While the Shuttle area really helps with theming for a haunted house they're using the old simulator building for, it leave Hometown Square and County Fair pretty lame with the exception of the troll bridge in County Fair.

Hometown Square pretty much has traditional fall-seasonal decorations up

DejaVu is now a Splash Battle. Get over it.

He was walking around the gravel area just outside the fenced figure-eight near the end, isn't that a danger zone?

Raging Bull was flying in the back row today

The lines were moving slower than normal, I wish they'd budget the park enough to run 3-trains as much as possible.

Rode Viper but didn't shoot any pics. Last row, fun as usual.

Everybody laugh at the rice car with the Wal-Mart hood scoops glued on the hood:

Revolution doesn't suck anymore!

Revz during Fright Fest is a total sleeper. I went on it because of the fog but didn't expect the new ride cycle.

Ok, remember this photo from closing night 2006? Well I shot it again and got it even better:

If anyone wants a copy of it for a desktop I will provide the full version at either SFGAmZone or the SFGAmWiki.

Is it Whizzer or is it Video Game the Ride? That ad is huge!

Somewhere in that fog patch is Columbia

THE EDN

Crowds weren't too nasty today thanks to the rain.

Plus's to:
Clowns in Mardi Gras were great this year
King Chaos. Go ride it. Simple as that.
Revolution's Fright Fest theme
Terror Twister's strobe is now synched again with the music
Tinsel Town scaracters were great this year
Something being done with the Shuttle building

Minus's to:
Trolls need to do more than just wander around and scream at people. What happened to the chalk they had years ago? Or when they found an Exit sign and smashed it up
Leaving Hometown Square and County Fair barely themed
Way too much fog at Columbia pond. Cool, but a big photo-ruiner

"He was walking around the gravel area just outside the fenced figure-eight near the end, isn't that a danger zone?"

Key word there is outside. Any danger zone will be fenced in and clearly marked.

"The lines were moving slower than normal, I wish they'd budget the park enough to run 3-trains as much as possible."

Raging Bull (and Demon) can't operate in the rain if they are running 3 trains, so that is why Bull had 2 trains. By the time it stopped raining, there weren't enough guests in the park to justify 3 train op.

My Fright Fest observations/opinions:

Overall, this is one of the better Fright Fests. The themed areas are well done.

Good:
Ricoslay theming (Pigman)
Revy and Eagle
King Chaos
Necropolis is great, as usual
Tinseltown is better this year. The cornstalk divider looks way better than the chain-link fence they used last year.

Bad:
Area 51. Although Cell Block A is a good addition, nothing can compare to how good Area 51 was in Hometown Square. It worked very well in Hometown Square. Last year, with it in County Fair, they didn't have room for some of the larger items. Now this year, they have all the theming in place, but its just there. Also, I'm very disappointed with the current state of the entry. What happened to the big sign?

Iron Wolf. With Area 51 no longer in County Fair, they should have brought back the Iron Werewolf name since it actually fits the ride.
