Someone over at Great America Parks posted a link that has some real good pictures of the Santa Clara Whizzer taken in 1988 (the last year it was there). Also includes some removal photos. The ride was taken down Flashback SFMM style (ie. reckless and messy). One of the pictures shows a piece of track hanging off of a support.
http://leh.net/~kevin/mga/whizzer_pics/Overall, some very good photos. There is a picture of the original Main Panel, and one of the Secondary Panel at the unload position. There are also a couple pictures that show how the station was in its original configuration.
Did anyone notice that what is now the final brake run used to use the triangle-shaped track from Schwarzkopf?
http://leh.net/~kevin/mga/whizzer_pics/photos/photo20.shtmlSome of those were sad to see, that could've been the fate of ours in 2002.
Ours still has some triangular track on it in the brake runs, though Santa Clara's looks like it had more. There were a lot of random things that were different between the 2 Whizzers. SC's final brake run had wood planks under it instead of concrete. Also, their supports are all box-beam, ours are tubular (except the lift). Also, the catwalks are very different, although that is probably because the catwalks weren't added until 77 or 78.
It's sad to see the Whizzer in CA going to be killed.
I would be so mad if our whizzer was taken down. just in case next season it was closed or dismantled (which I dont think it will be but you never know) me and a friend were the last riders of the season on it with a couple others riding too.
Don't know if anyone saved the images, but these links are broken...
