To prepare for SFOT's 50th Anniversary, the Texas Giant will be closed for the 2010 season to be renovated.
http://www.star-telegram.com/local/story/1260267.htmlIf the stories I've heard about this ride are true, then this overhaul may be long overdue.
It also states that all 20 parks will get a major attraction in 2011 for the chain's 50th.
Now let's see if it happens...
Will SF still be around in 2011
Texas Giant from what I remember was rough, but fun. Hopefully the "renovations" don't include trim brakes, but the line "Shapiro acknowledges that not all coaster enthusiasts will view the renovation as a positive change to the 18-year-old coaster but the rehabilitation of the Giant will be a key part of the park’s 50th anniversary." doesn't give me much hope.
Well, no new coasters in 2010 for us if we're getting something in 2011.
So that means SFMM will get a new coaster 3 years in a row?
2009, 2010, and 2011?
This ride should be torn down, and they shouldn't dare use that name again for another ride. This ride is the second worst ride I've been on in my life. This is rougher than the Ninjas, rougher than X (which is fun rough), Hi-Roller (carnival ride), and rougher than Typhoon (former Santa's Village).
They should just put something like an Evil Kinevil or Terminator even though those don't look like my type of ride (They don't look like airtime machines - out and back).
