Title: New 2010 Passes
Tiki - March 1, 2010 04:04 PM (GMT)
Has everyone received their 2010 season passes/renewals yet? We usually get ours in the mail by now and as of today (March 1st) nothing. What gives?

Haven't gotten mines either... :willy:

For all the money spent on data mining, market research and marketing and then not move quickly on customers you already have in your hand is misguided at best. Lots of folks will be getting some tax money back pretty soon. I would be hitting them hard to renew their passes.

It's my understanding that the park is no longer mailing these due to postage costs and paper waste. I'm not sure though.
Tiki - March 2, 2010 11:11 PM (GMT)
Well that's not a good business plan.
I could see that plan being o.k. if they at least informed season pass holders to come in or go to the website and renew.
They send me at least one e-mail advertisement a week. They could say something about pass renewals.
Most of us are probably waiting for the new passes to arrive just like every other year. They are losing a lot of potential interest earnings while we hold our money waiting.

Wrong. I emailed them regarding passes. I was asking if they are still forcing renewing pass holders to pay the BS shipping and handling fees when a new pass can be bought for much less. They said that they still send renewing pass holders an actual pass, so the S&H are still there, but if you want to avoid that cost and other extra fees, wait for the mailer that will come in early March. Here's the response I got from them:

Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding your visit to Six Flags Great America. I am always interested in Guests’ impressions as they help us to continually improve our operations and service. The online ordering system has a processing fee of $5 for any order that is placed online, the additional $5 is for the shipping of your physical seasons pass when you renew the seasons pass. If you would like to avoid this additional $5 charge you can wait for the RCM activation cards to be mailed out. The RCM activation cards are un-activation 2010 seasons pass with your picture from the previous season. The Six Flags System sends the mailer cards out at the beginning of March. In order to activate the cards you will log on to an activation website included on the mailer sent out and enter the card numbers and process the order online. Once the process is complete and the pass is paid for, your physical RCM card will be activate and you will only have to pay the $5 online processing fee. I can assure you that your concerns as well as your suggestions were passed on to the appropriate departmental Managers and your suggestions will be considered. Again, Again, thank you for taking the time to notify me of your experience. We appreciate your comments as we strive to continually offer our Guests a quality experience.

tl;dr: Keep waiting for the mailer with your unactivated pass if you're waiting to renew; it will eventually come. It's not like you're using it before April anyway.

What do you mean I can't use them before April? The minute I get them, I am going to go to the front gate and wait for them to open!

I know this statement isn't true (based on what Six Flags has said), but to me why send out passes to people that had them if you have no idea if they are going to renew it or not? How much money are they wasting every year by doing this?
To me, I don't wait for them to send me the pass through the mail like this because they could raise prices anyday if they wanted to. I missed the opportunity to get the $10 Amazon card this year because I thought they might have something better later on, but what't the incentive to wait so long? Unless they send them out so late because they figure a lot of people would have gotten them by now, and thus you don't have send out as many as you would in December of last year.

Well they started sending e-mails saying you could buy the passes for $54.99 as early as last November. The problem is when you have had passes before and you buy passes online again, they sometimes have a screw up that voids all of them. This happened to us one year. We bought passes online, then our renewal passes showed up, then the ones we bought showed up. Neither set worked and we had to go back and forth with guest services and showing receipts, etc. before we could get it straightened out. Then the year that the parking thing was printed on the card, that got lost and we had to do the receipt verify /dance all over again.
They did give us a bunch of free stuff and coupons for our troubles, and everyone was very nice and helpful. But now I am skittish about renewing until I get the passes with that slip that has the renewal number on it.

^ Wow, that's a big pain in the ass. You'd think that if you renew online it would send something out to notify them to not send you the inactive pass in the mail. In addition to that, since it's an inactive pass, it shouldn't even make a difference. Unless you renewed at about this time and they happened to already send out the pass without your knowledge and then it arrived a few days after you actually renewed the pass. Still though, they screwed that up big time.
Tiki - March 5, 2010 08:50 PM (GMT)
Yes. I don't know how it happened and they didn't seem to either. But we had to back out of the original purchase, get the credit, re-purchase the old passes as renewal, etc.,etc. And then I had to scour my bank statements for fear I'd get duplicate charges, etc. But, it has not happened since because I wait until I have the renewal passes before I attempt anything. Of course I miss out on the discounted price that way, but there's no worries at least.

What's good this year is that if you join the Funatics club, and have a season pass, after your 5th visit, you will get 20% off coupon, or code for a season pass for next year - 2011! So, than I don't have to wait for a better discount. I could just get it during Fright Fest, and go through the hassle as I did this year. I'm sure that's the best it's going to get. Maybe, they would add the Amazon card too, but amazon I don't really care that much about.
Tiki - March 8, 2010 06:01 PM (GMT)
Really? I joined the Funatics thing. Maybe I'll get something nice?
