Wow! Sounds like a great value!

david - April 13, 2010 10:43 PM (GMT)
Only up to 5 Rewards, no free pass at 20 visits :(

superbleachbrothers - April 14, 2010 11:05 AM (GMT)
Where do I get the rewards from? The Printer or from the park? Anyway, this rewards thing looks very helpful for spending less money.

david - April 14, 2010 12:26 PM (GMT)
If I'm not mistaken, you go to pass processing?

Tiki - April 14, 2010 12:52 PM (GMT)
That all sounds great...
Now if they'd only send me my passes so I can renew them!

Tiki - April 14, 2010 08:43 PM (GMT)
Well they now have told me that you can't renew passes more than 4 consecutive years. I guess I'll be buying online and going through the BS routine on OD.
I just sent an e-mail off to Mr. Shapiro, not being mean about the park, but to explain why it may not be such a good idea to turn down money.

david - April 14, 2010 11:02 PM (GMT)
That is utter stupidity. "Sorry we won't take your money, because you've had a season pass for to long."

Tiki - April 15, 2010 12:05 PM (GMT)
Yes. It's not the most well thought out business plan. Especially in this economic environment.
Or as my online friend David might ask: "Enta Magnoon?"

Ilovthevu' - April 15, 2010 08:14 PM (GMT)
For once I'll side with the company on this one. People could have changed their appearance in 4 years especially pre-teen to teen, and teen-to adult. So, having such an old picture of a person might be bad for the company if you have people trying to sneak in using the pass, and they are a different person than on that pass. I don't know if people do that, but there are probably some that might try stupid stuff like that, and to me I think they should force people to get new pictures every 4 years. Hey, I'm one that has to do that - take a new picture this year - so.

And if people upload their own photo with their own camera online (which they don't have right now), I don't personally trust everyone. Sure, most people would take a picture of their face, and put it on the pass, BUT there are some other people that might put 2 people on the pass, and I could just imagine people putting stupid stuff on it like a pet picture, and what-not, so they can't do that either.

Tiki - April 16, 2010 12:35 PM (GMT)
Well I don't disagree with getting new passes every four years. But, they should send renewal forms and collect the money just as if you were renewing the same old passes.
For one thing, having an active pass number that remains that patrons pass number allows the company to track spending habits, etc. And, when people renew early, the company gets to receive money early and collect interest on that money or avoid interest on loans by using that money early.
You have to renew your Drivers License's too. But you keep the same license number for life.
They could have done a better job on achieving the goal on this one.

On a different note about season passes, I think the park is way too obsessed with selling them especially for the price they are selling them. When they had the commercials last year, all they would talk about is season pass this, and that. The problem I see with them is that they to me again are just so undervalued. It's barely 2 times, and you can save money by getting a season pass for the whole season which is a long time.

It amazes me when they have the season pass holder stuff, and than people expect it to be an empty park, but it's not. The reason is because so many people have season passes now instead of buying tickets, and thus the park is crowded anytime you say season pass, and exclusive blah blah. It's not exclusive anymore.

Because Six Flags is an undervalued company in regards with tickets, and season passes (They do get you in other areas though such as food, lockers, and parking.), they have resorted themself to advertising in the park like anything. It doesn't really bother me though like it does some people, but to some their experience isn't just the same because of all the experiences. I'm fine with the tvs, but I just wish the content had more tvish type of stuff like cartoons (like they use to have) rather than just music videos, and the same old the lady going to Six Flags content.

Luxornv - April 16, 2010 07:56 PM (GMT)
It does seem odd that they won't let you renew the pass 4 consecutive years. Perhaps that's why I never got the RCM mailer. It would also be nice if they told you this somewhere. However, it doesn't really matter to me since there is no perk to renewing your pass versus buying a new one. It's the same cost, and they offer all the same perks with a new pass that a renewing pass gets. I'm not sure if I'll be at the park opening weekend, but if I am, I'll just buy a new pass then.

Tiki, I think you may be looking too far into how they track season pass usage. I'd think the main reason for the number is just to make it easier when you come in to the park to make sure you have a valid pass. They scan it, it checks the number against a database of season pass numbers, and finds it. If it finds it, you're good, if not, you have a problem. Probably the only tracking they do on it is to see how many times pass holders visit every season, and which parks they visit.

I also agree with Ilovethevu' that the season passes are extremely undervalued. I've always personally thought that they should be way more expensive than the $70 or so that they are now. Though, if it's only 2 trips and it's worth it, many people will make an extra trip to the park just because they can and will spend more money in 2 visits than they would in one visit. I just wonder what the profit trade off is between basically granting free admission and allowing people multiple times and spending money every visit as opposed to limiting people to one trip a year.

Tiki - April 17, 2010 06:13 PM (GMT)
I thought they were undervalued at $84.99

But I guess they intend for a lot of pass holders to purchase parking ala carte instead of buying the parking pass? Or make money on item sales assuming that a person who may only visit a few times would definitely be more inclined to purchase souvenirs?

The old brittle side of me says that if the passes were a couple hundred dollars each and the gate price was seventy five-ish, there would be a lot less riff raff in the park. But the nicer side of my personality says that would exclude a great many underprivileged kids from ever being able to go to SFGA.

I can however envision a time where the economy allows for much higher premiums on disposable income pursuits. Only time will tell.

david - April 18, 2010 03:47 AM (GMT)
A $200 season pass would totally and completely destroy the chain. I don't know anyone that is willing to pay $200+ for a few visits a year. $75 at the door, and $40 with a can of coke seems reasonable.

Although I agree the passes are undervalued, but they get you with the overpriced food, and such.

Tiki - April 19, 2010 08:00 PM (GMT)
Well that's what I mean't by Ala Carte.
But there's no guarantee you'll eat there or buy things there. So either you disallow same day return entry so people are forced to eat there, or you jack up the passes and admissions.
I am speaking for people like me who visit there almost everyday during the Hurricane Harbor season. Obviously it wouldn't be a good deal at $200 if you didn't go at least 5 times or more.
Less traffic at the same income is a great scenario for an amusement park or any business that is affected by wear and tear. It means less labor expense too.
Would you rather serve 10 people at a hundred bucks each or a hundred people at ten bucks each?
