Title: Ready For Fright Fest!!

Great America - August 1, 2007 02:47 AM (GMT)
Now is the time of year where I get butterflys in my stomach thinking about FF. I have a feeling that this is going to be a great year and im already excited. What do you guys think?

Viper 06 - August 1, 2007 05:11 AM (GMT)
Presuming the Budget isn't cut in september like it was last year, it should be great...but i'm not holding my breath based on their current stock price....

If it stays how it is currently planned, it's gonna rock...if it changes...it probably won't.

Edit: I just found out that Both The Sin City Scare Zone and the Haunted Hay Ride were cut. I wouldn't be surprised is SFGAm staffed the Hay Ride in house, but i wouldn't count on it. So As of now FF is supposed to be.

Carousel: Regular Blood Pool etc...
But I heard a rumor there may not be a show on that stage this year.

Hometown: Also nothing, this is specifically to clear the path to wiggles world, so families don't have to walk thorugh scare zones. I've heard a rumor there may be a show on the parade stage though.

Illinois Trollway: Returning as per usual.

Southwest: HUGE new Tinsletown Scare Zone with new street characters something called "Your Horror Screen Test" and a House themed to Horror Movies.

County Fair: Area 51 moves to the Iron Wolf Area this year with several new characters added to the mix...it'll be interesting to see how they pull this off in a new area.

Picnic Grove: Necropolis will be returning As always. along with Mausoleum of Terror, But i've heard a rumor that an expanded version of the Dr. Fright show may end up on the Wilderness Stage.

Yankee/Yukon Bridge: Home of the returning Pirates who i'm guessing will use the rest of Yankee as well now that Sin City is Cancelled.

Mardi Gras: Clowns return with double the amout of characters.

Orelans: Seven Sins Cemetary returns.

Great America - August 1, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
So theres nothing in Hurricane Harobor?

Viper 06 - August 2, 2007 02:31 AM (GMT)
Sadly the Budget intervened.

Great America - August 2, 2007 03:09 AM (GMT)
O that sucks. Im still really looking forward to it though!

Galvan316 - August 5, 2007 01:57 AM (GMT)
How do you know this?

Viper 06 - August 7, 2007 06:08 AM (GMT)
Honestly I just assumed the Budget Thing, But the rest is on JPMs site.

Ilovthevu' - August 7, 2007 02:53 PM (GMT)
No, I'm not ready for Fright Fest. It's too early for me. It's only August. I know time goes bye fast, but I just don't want to think of that time yet. The reason is because right after Fright Fest, guess what time it is again? It's offseason, and it's HORRIBLE.

thrill_god - August 12, 2007 10:44 PM (GMT)
Wow, and I felt just this morning I went for the first time. Time goes by fast.

viper31 - August 17, 2007 05:10 AM (GMT)
I really was looking forward to the All New Frightfest but, budget cuts as always seem to take there toll. Really for the mst attended event of any year I have to question why it pays the price for a Slow June/July. Until something new and major is added to Great America crowds will keep slipping. Now if I was them I would keep the Fright and all the triming promised for this year. Alas something new has to come out of 2007.

I'm with you on this one! I don't want fright fest yet! I love October and Halloween and spooky things, but when it comes to sfgam it just means one month left! FF is fun and I loved it last year, but once it comes it will be time. I will not be ready for it until then.

Great America - September 12, 2007 12:22 AM (GMT)
They have started adding little things around the park now such as signs and cobwebs!

jonrev - September 12, 2007 12:54 AM (GMT)
The burlap cobwebs are all over the park as of last weekend.

Ilovthevu' - September 17, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
Skeletons, Scream mask and cape guys, and Bats are in the trees. The Great American Raceway has all the Fright Fest characters in it. They took those ghosts in the tunnel from the train, and put them through that attraction. Remember, those ghosts would light up and move in the train tunnel before. They have Iron "Werewolf" also in the car ride. Did they make a mistake, or do they have two werewolves?

That looks most definitely like that wolf. He is near a grave. Fiddler's Flung has it's props against the wall. Rue Le Morgue has black lights, but no body parts, and other stuff. Demon has red lights all over. The American Eagle has red lights on side of the ride (not facing street). I'm not positive, I think by looking that Chubasco might have it's walls up (dark inside, but they probably still have lights on), and that's about it except for the cobwebs that someone said already.

Does anyone know which flat won't be open for Fright Fest? I really hope it's not Big Easy Balloons. It's seems every year, a flat is closed in October. Two years ago, it was Triple Play. Another year, it was East River Crawler. I think another one was The Orbit one year. Don't quote me on that.

MrsVerticalVelocity - September 30, 2007 05:33 PM (GMT)
Ok. Now I am ready! I can't wait until I go for FF! This year, I want to try a haunted house...I didn't get to last year...and since last year was my first FF ever, I didn't get to experience everything. I plan on going more than once this year.

I will be spraying my hair some color again. Right now it is dyed black with blonde streaks. I think I am going to spray the blonde parts orange so that I have orange and black for Halloween. I could also do the blue thing again just for tradition.

I love Halloween! Welcome to my favorite holiday!

sixflagger3211 - September 30, 2007 11:24 PM (GMT)
I know I love Halloween too. I think AE Will look pretty cool with the red lights, but I'll be pretty disappointed if Terror Twister isn't going to be like the way it's always been.

5 days, 13 hours, 35 minutes, 29 seconds till Fright Fest!!!!!

jonrev - October 1, 2007 01:41 AM (GMT)
Tiny and her babies are up, no sign of Larry yet.

Ilovthevu' - October 1, 2007 02:41 PM (GMT)
Why are they not having the train run during Fright Fest this year? Is it because they are planning a new attraction somewhere, and it will interfere with the train?

Will it interfere with the Demon. There are supposed to Demon characters this year. Maybe, they will be walking on the train tracks?

sfgam123 - October 1, 2007 09:13 PM (GMT)
A. Jon I think they put Larry on STT the day befor Fright Fest
B.I don't think they are having demon charectors on the tracks. I think they are starting the have parts for BDK comming in and having them trancfered over the tracks, like they did for tornado.

TonyMichaud - October 2, 2007 02:07 AM (GMT)
Just got back from the Sunday (Sept. 30th) buyout and this is what is done so far for Fright Fest. Use the link to my website to see pictures, I should have them up within a day or so...

1.) As some person already said, Iron Wolf has been renamed "The Predator." They have made a very awesome new sign with cool font and a picture of the Predator face above it. Another sign beneath it reads "Area 51 Hanger." Everyonce in awhile you'll hear "The Predator" over speakers in line, other than that no other theming was visable yet. The announcer still says "Welcome to Iron Wolf"... I hope that gets changed.

2.) Directly across from "The Predator" is "Space Command." Many of you may know this ride as Fiddler's Fling. As is with Fliddler's Flung, body parts are plastered all over the ride walls.

3.) The American Eagle's station is mildly boarded up (like Terror Twister/Rue Le Morge) and has red lights and spider webs decorating the area. Although the park closed at 6pm and wasn't dark out yet, trust me, at night Eagle's station will be awesome!

4.) Giant Drop is not Hellevator this year. It has no Halloween decorations.

5.) Terror Twister is boarded up, DJ Terror is in his booth inside, but that's about it as of now. The lights above, and the fog tubes/machines are not inside yet, and the sound system doesn't look set up.

6.) Snakes on a Train is better than last year, and by better I mean... Well... there are more plastic snakes... At least it's better than just changing the coasters name with no extra theming (cough, Iron Wolf, cough)

7.) Demon was in the process of being completed. The front sign, with the eyes and such looked wonderfully done. One thing I noticed that looked odd was around where (in the que) you walk through the rock wall where the train climbs the lift hill... Over to the right, behind "The Wall" was tons of fencing, with covers over them. I only had a moment to really get a look but the fence looked like it was strategically placed in such a manner that it could be used as overflood que for Demon... That perhaps could also be used as the "Rise of the Demon" que... Anyone remember back in the day in line for the Masoleum, where you'd go through a mini house prior to the big house? I am only speculating, and obviously I could be completly wrong, but perhaps this would be the same... To ride Demon during Fright Fest you'd have to walk through this "mini Haunted House." The only thing that made me think otherwise is Demon is a family friendly attraction, but then again it is being labeled as a Scare Zone... Perhaps and hopefully on the same level as Necropolis... It could be cool.

8.) Deja Vu had no signs of possibly becoming the new "Hellevator"

9.) Superstitions sign was up, did not go to see if it was operating under "Frightful Conditions" as it seemed nothing was, which was a pitty.

10.) The front pond was not blood red.

11.) Seven Sins Cemetary looked like it was coming along nicely. The graves were out, and there was another sign on the boarder of it and Mardi Gras that read "CarnEvil" - Perhaps Mardi Gras is being renamed? I like it!

12.) Rue Le Morge was boarded up, I heard no music and unfortunately did not ride it. My bad

13.) The Condor is Haunted! I saw nothing out of the ordinary, but the sign out front of it reads "The Birds" - Perhaps some more Haunting effects will be added to spice this ride up! Fantastic!

14.) Blood River's sign was up, but the water was not red.

15.) Monster Mash's sign was up, but no speakers, lighting effects or fog machines were present. I can't remember if they had these last year, but in '05 they did and the ride was a ton of fun!

16.) Necropolis was locked.

17.) The UFO prop they have was blocking the entrance to the Train station by "The Predator." I believe I heard the Train will not be operating during Fright Fest.

18.) Rope, cobwebs, and brand new signs are up! When I say "new signs" I am talking about the "Old" Fright Fest Logo on Flags that are either black or Orange with that pumpkin head dude in either Black or Red lettering... You all hopefully know what I am talking about... Well, new this year are brand new ones... I can't really describe them, so you'll just have to wait till Saturday... Some are pretty cool.

19.) LAFF (may) have a new sign. Sorry LAFF fans, if it isn't new I just never saw it before, but if the one you have always seen had "Mr. Pumpkin Head" and LAFF beneath it, (the one they had forever) It has been changed! Don't worry, it looks cool... I won't describe it if it is new, I don't want to ruin the surprise...

A couple of key things:

1.) I am amazed how much work they still have to do to make Fright Fest ready for Saturday...

2.) Hellevator better show up somewhere (<3 GD)

3.) "The Birds" better get some freakin' crazy theming! (Who am I kidding? It has a new name I'll ride it!! LOL)

4.) "Bodies" by Drowning Pool better play in Rue Le Morge (I know it probably won't - But I can dream!!)

5.) More sound effects in line for "The Predator" - Get some Arnold clips... "If it bleeds, we can kill it, C'mon kill me I'm here, etc" (That would be freakin' awesome!)

6.) Area 51 looks the best it ever has, (in my honest opinion)

7.) I am insanely impressed with "The American Eagle's station. Come 8pm on a dark Saturday night, the station was be amazing... I can't wait!

That's about it everyone! Honestly, this Fright Fest looks better than '06! Get pumped to have a Hellish good time!

See you in line for Terror Twister on Saturday!

sixflagger3211 - October 2, 2007 03:32 AM (GMT)
I absolutely can't wait for American Eagle and Terror Twister. I'm still really hoping they play Sandstorm by Darude.

sfgam123 - October 2, 2007 03:47 AM (GMT)
Any signes of Larry or the Giant Punkin in the front yet?

TonyMichaud - October 2, 2007 12:25 PM (GMT)
No, they had some lame Wiggle's character that resembled a cowboy and was playing a guitar.

Larry wasn't up either.

And don't worry, Sandstorm is in the line up, you just have to time it well as there are 5 songs in the line up. You'll definitely hear it, but may not be on the cycle when its playing...

viper31 - October 5, 2007 04:31 AM (GMT)
After just returning from Cedar Point and the nice job they do, but we all know it's the rides that bring people there. I was also surprised with such hugh crowds on Saturday the Haunting only went on from 8P.M. until Midnight. On Sunday the park was empty and it seemed like a regular operating day not Halloweekends.
ANYWAY
Great America seems to be raising the bar for Fright Fest. I always feel Great America does an outstanding job, and each week more get's added. So far from BuyOut Reports more rides and better Theming is going into this years event. The way Great America was built also lends itself to being closer to the Theming. It's looking like 2007 will go out with a Scream. :P

sfgam123 - October 5, 2007 01:30 PM (GMT)
The black moon will come out tomarrow, tomarrow, frightfest comes tomarrow. Its only a scare away.

Ilovthevu' - October 11, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
Larry is up on the STT. I've seen it from other Halloween albums. Did anyone notice that the least popular roller coasters are getting the Halloween treatment. I think that's funny. They are American Eagle, Demon, and Iron Wolf. If people start riding them during Fright Fest, maybe those same people will start to ride them next year. That's a great idea Six Flags, but I doubt that it's going to work to keep those people riding those rides.

Viper 06 - October 13, 2007 06:48 AM (GMT)
American Eagle is the Second Most Popular Rides, Demon is the Fifth. Until you have figures don't go assuming...

sixflagger3211 - October 13, 2007 01:46 PM (GMT)
Will American Eagle be using both trains this weekend?

Yea AE has 4 trains running most of the time sooo its a very high capacity which is why it never really has a long line

Demon was not popular until like 4 years ago i remember one time i got 6 rides in a row at night I think it was because of the FF theming that alwso carried popularity into the regualr season

Yea andd IW was never really popular since the 1990's but i have never had a walk on on it but it usuallly a 5 minute wait so thats good
If anyone is going this weekend please take pics of rise of the demon im not goin till the 26th weekend so im dying to see those

Viper 06 - October 15, 2007 05:06 AM (GMT)
No Flash Photography in Rise of the Demon.

Ilovthevu' - October 15, 2007 03:34 PM (GMT)
^You should ride Demon more. I count the line as a ride being popular or not. To me, it's whether people are willing to wait in the line no matter how many trains they have. Demon's always pretty empty unless it's the mid-summer. When other rides have a line, Iron Wolf doesn't. The average wait for me on Demon is about 5 minutes. It's mostly a station wait unless it's a Saturady.

I actually believe that Batman has gained popularity, and Iron Wolf along with Demon have lost theirs. It's been very hard for me to get a walk-on Batman this year compared to other years. Maybe it has something to do with that paint, or it has something do with the movie that recently came out. I don't know. I always seem to be waiting in the switchbacks.

andyvball - October 15, 2007 08:51 PM (GMT)
Batman is almost always full, its just a matter of how many weaves it has open, but I have only seen the GCPD weaves open twice.

And as for Demon it usually isnt that filled. It used to be extremely unpopular but SF has realized that even though the ride layout might suck they have improved the quality of the ride with themeing and better maintenance.(the same cannot be said for it neighbor across the path B) )

Ilovthevu' - October 16, 2007 02:22 PM (GMT)
I saw two of the shows, and this what I have to say about them:

Dead Man's Party: It's not my type of show at all. I don't like the music they are singing really, but I do like one song. This song is sung by Evanscence, and I don't know what to say about how they were singing that song.

Haunted Castle: It was really cool how real everything was on screen, but this was a complete waste of time. It was so STUPID!

The pumpkin is awesome in front of the carousel.

Viper 06 - October 23, 2007 02:55 AM (GMT)
Interesting that If you think a ride has a long line that it's popular. What do you have to say about Cajun then?

I count how popular a ride is by turnstile clicks.

andyvball - October 23, 2007 03:10 AM (GMT)
Yes it is how I count popularity

If you think about it how many times does a ride have a walk on???
Slim to None
Its not accurate that way cause basically almost every ride will have passengers the entire day

GreatAmericaFan17 - November 13, 2007 02:30 AM (GMT)
One Thing i have been trying to know is how come Blood River wasn't open This year or last year.. Would Anyone know why?

Great America - November 13, 2007 02:50 AM (GMT)
Im not sure, I think its because of the weather. I know that I would have done it in the early weeks of fright fest where it was really warm.

GreatAmericaFan17 - November 13, 2007 02:54 AM (GMT)
I would have done that as well, Hopefully someone will know why it was closed this year and last year

Ilovthevu' - November 13, 2007 02:49 PM (GMT)
^I agree too. I don't think it should be opened at all. If it was, than they would close another ride. Blood River is never really that packed, and it was a stupid idea to open it during Fright Fest.

If you are willing to wait in a long line, than I say that's a popular ride. If Deja Vu had 2 trains (impossible) or Ragin Cajun had 20 trains (which is impossible), I really think that there would be even more people in line because those lines would be shorter.
