amusement park in the United States. Disney has the most attendance compared to all the other parks in the U.S. I think Magic Kingdom was reported at 15 million people a year.
I have many opinions on this. First, you have the fact that the park is open all year. So, they can get a lot more attendance than SFGAm can. In fact, they are open everyday compared to Magic Mountain which is only open on weekends during SFGAm's off-season. This is for Disneyland, and Disney World.
There are multiple parks at both locations. Disney World has 6 parks (including the water ones), and Disneyland has 2 parks. With that in mind, they offer park hopper which means that you can go into two parks in one day, or even more. So, that might add much to attendance. If a person like me, or someone else goes to three parks in one day, that counts for each park visit. I did MGM, Animal Kingdom, and the Magic Kingdom in one day. The same thing goes for Universal Studios in Florida. You can go to two parks in one day if you pay more.
At both locations, there are many things to do besides Disney. Thus, people go Disney for 4 days, try Universal for another, and maybe make there way to Knott's Berry Farm. Near Disneyland, the amusement parks, and other stuff around there include SFMM, Knott's Berry Farm, see tapings of tv shows (Jay Leno/ Price is Right), store shopping on that famous street, and Universal Hollywood. They also have Downtown Disney.
Near Disney World, you can go to Universal (2 parks), Sea World (2 parks -soon to have a waterpark), Busch Gardens (an hour away maybe), a small outdoor amusement park, Downtown Disney, Ripley's Believe it or Not, Wet N Wild Waterpark, Cypress Gardens (30 minutes away), if you are going to Florida State Fair (That is only 30 minutes away even though it's only like a week and a half), and tons of restaurants. They also have that racing thing that they hardly use, and there own sports complex.
There aren't that many places that have there favorite characters from movies they have seen around. If Disney came out with Cars, there might a possibility to see the red car from that movie out and about. Where can you see Cinderella from the movie you watched as a kid. Sadly, kids are getting away from Bugs Bunny at SF parks, but they still remember movies because anyone can still rent a classic Disney movie. They will never go away. It's hard to watch Bugs Bunny cartoons on tv anymore. So, any Disney move that comes out, you might be able to see those characters at Disney. You have to think also what rides do kids go on. At the carnival, or the amusement park, they always go on a ride like the teacups, the train, or a funslide. At the Magic Kingdom, they can go on dark rides such as Snow White, Pooh, Peter Pan, Small World, and so on.
There are many unique rides at Walt Disney World / Disneyland Resort that you can't find anywhere else. That is a huge reason why Disney is so popular besides the other reasons. Where can ride a jeep in what looks to be like Africa, and go on a Safari? All the parks are very unique except DCA, and thus people come to Disney because Six Flags / Cedar Fair, or any other carnivals don't have the rides they do. That's why Sea World and Universal are doing pretty good in Florida. They not feed off of Disney, but they too are unique. Where can ride the movies, or go to a just water animal park?
Also about parents, they can actually ride the rides with there kids. Most parents at carnivals, or amusement parks, don't want to go on the rides because they can't fit, or they just don't want to. They will go on even a roller coaster at Disney World because it's tamed compared to another one somewhere else.
Teens like the park because they have roller coasters, motion simulators, and other types of thrill rides like Test Track.
Now, you ask why is California Adventure doing so bad in regards to attendance? I have the answer. It's too much like a regular amusement park, but yet the park doesn't have a lot of rides. They have a two roller coasters (like other amusement parks), a Mailboomer (found at other amusement parks), a Zamperla balloon ride, River Rapids ride (found at SF, and other ones), Ferris Wheels (Some people don't like the outside cars, but the other type of Ferris Wheel you can find anywhere else), factories are stupid at an amusement park, Zierer Wave Swinger at other places, the parachute thing you can find at other amusement parks, and the Golden Zephyr doesn't look that great.
We have It's Tough To Be a Bug which scares children left along with Soarin' which I think it boarin, but people do like it. The Tower of Terror is great, and than we have an Aladdin show which people say is good. The last two are Monster's Inc., and Muppets. I think Muppets is too old, Monster's Inc. is okay, but it's nothing for me. Maybe, the kids like it. Anyway, the whole point is that you can find most of the rides at California Adventures at other parks, and thus why pay $68 a day if you are paying that much for just one day to go to DCA when you can just go to Magic Mountain, or any other Six Flags/ Cedar Fair park.
That's what I think. Do you agree, or disagree? What are your opinions about why Disney does so much better? Don't give me this theming stuff. I don't agree with that at all. It's the RIDES, and this other stuff that gives it the attendance that is so high.
Disney is an destination adventure. So many parks and constant marketing. Bugs Bunny is as popular as ever, every viist to the park I see the kids go crazy for the Looney Tune Gang. If Six Flags marketed Bugs as agressively as The Wiggles you would notice this more. If Six Flags was ever to lose Bugs Disney would snap them up and combined Time Warner Walt Disney would rule the world. Look what they are doing with Pixar once enemies. The field has changed and Daffy and Donald could someday walk hand and hand down Main Street U.S.A. Disney makes magic happen and thats why people keep going.
